The great and the gorgeous are in training for this year’s Barcaldine Tree of Knowledge Festival.  Greatly gorgeous goats, that is! The goat races will be held at the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon 30 April.

The experienced crew from Barcaldine’s goat-fancying community is proud to show a wider audience that well-trained goats can race safely and competitively. Youngsters (over 10 years old) are just the right size for the goat racing carts, as most adults are a little too big for a comfortable ride.

Barcaldine Goat Racing Committee President, Mr Tom Lockie explained that goat racing has been an integral part of the Tree of Knowledge Festival for many years now, and is a great crowd pleaser amongst the all the varied events that weekend.

“The sprint races are always a highlight of the program, and we are always keen to reward goats who are proven winners, as well as those just starting out.”

The Old Goat No Glory race is like a ‘Masters’ for goats. It gives older goats, ones who have maybe never quite made it, a chance to succeed against others in their class, whilst the Maiden Race is strictly for goats that have raced this year only.

More information and the full race program will be on the Tree of Knowledge Facebook page, and nomination forms, competition rules and other information can also be obtained from the end of April from barcygoats@outlook.com or by calling 0448 397111, and will also be available from the Barcaldine Regional Council website.
